“Reduce our company in size.
And reduce it to its essentials.
Selling only what we love.
Our whole structure will be directed by quality.
Buy less, choose well, make it last.
Together Andreas and I head the design teams for all lines.’
-Vivienne Westwood
Vivienne Westwood is one of the last independent global fashion companies in the world. So much more than just clothing and accessories, the label is thought-provoking. Westwood embeds her passion for environmental and human rights into her collections using her runway shows as a platform to get her message out.
The Autumn/Winter 17/18 ready-to-wear show featured her men’s and women’s collections all under one label. It’s a seismic shift for the British fashion house that used to place its womenswear line under the Red Label and menswear under the MAN Label where they were previously both shown in Milan. They will now retail both under one label: Vivienne Westwood.
The brand chose to show in early January to present their collection ahead of the sales period for buyers to have a clear vision the season prior to coming into the showroom. Westwood’s diffusion lines Anglomania, the Worlds End Collection and all of her accessories lines will continue to be a part of the brand’s portfolio.
This season Insignia was there to take in all the action. Called Ecotricity, the collection was about a young woman who grew up with every privilege in the world. She’s intellectual, artistic and adventurous. “Let’s hope the bloke had the same chance in life,” the press release reads. They both love Westwood clothes and how they can trade pieces. They appreciate the way they are made by skilled artisans using cutting edge principles to make mass produced pieces that look couture. “Buy less, choose well, make it last” will ultimately combat climate change.
