Hôtel de Crillon, a Rosewood Hotel and one of the crown jewels of Paris’ historic luxury hotels, has reopened its doors today following a much-anticipated four-year and $200-million renovation. The renovation has brought the hotel up to date while also maintaining its illustrious and spectacular heritage. The historic Paris property first opened in 1909, in an 18th-century mansion on Place de la Concorde and was taken over by Rosewood Hotels and Resorts in 2013.
Architect Richard Martinet led the restoration of the façade and first-floor reception rooms, while a team of Paris-based interior designers have worked to “respect [the property’s] history while simultaneously injecting a modern attitude and a touch of Parisian irreverence”. Karl Lagerfeld designed the decor of the Grands Appartements, a set of two suites and a room overlooking the Place de la Concorde. Expect majestic views, hand-finished wood panels, Baccarat chandeliers, some of the veteran designer’s favorite books, a walk-in wardrobe and sumptuous marble bathrooms featuring products from L’Officine Universelle Buly. In total there are 81 rooms, 33 suites and 10 Signature Suites.
Food enthusiasts will look forward to the return of chef Christophe Hache, who previously helmed Les Ambassadeurs. He will oversee the gastronomic identity of the hotel and head its new restaurant L’Ecrin. His right hand man, Justin Schmitt, will officiate in the Brasserie d’Aumont, while sweet delicacies and pastries will be the work of Jérôme Chaucesse. Les Ambassadeurs bar, will offer nightly live music. La Cave holds the hotel’s fine wine collection and can be used for food-and-wine pairing dinners on request. Event spaces include Salon Marie-Antoinette, Salon des Batailles and Salon des Aigles, which are all listed heritage landmarks. In combination, they can host 220 guests for cocktails or 130 seated.
There is also a new a bar and winter garden, a 12-metre swimming pool, as well as a spa, gym, barber and hair salon.
