It’s a destination in New York. Dean & DeLuca is a deli/food market fever dream for gourmet snobs the world over. Dean & DeLuca offers patrons ground coffee, black and white cookies, artisanal breads and pussy willow branches, not to mention perhaps the most elegantly decorated cakes available on the island of Manhattan.

The famed upmarket grocer was founded in New York City’s SoHo in 1977 by Joel Dean and Giorgio DeLuca. It now boasts 11 stores across the States and six in the Middle East and Asia. It’s made its way into pop culture as a symbol of affluence and market-fresh extravagance. In The Devil Wears Prada (2006) Adrian Grenier laments: “I went to Dean & Deluca. Man, they charge, like, five dollars a strawberry there.” In Hannibal, Anthony Hopkins enjoys a branded lunchbox, while in American Psycho, Christian Bale references its Italian seasoning salt.

It is thus with great anticipation London looks forward to the opening of the famed market in Mayfair. Slated to be situated across the street from The Connaught, it will be located in a 1,900 sq ft space. The entrance to the in-house butcher will be located in the mews at the back of the building. At least well-heeled Londoners can enjoy their strawberries in Pounds Sterling.
